Listening to the girl take her advice made Raven really happy. It meant she was respected enough to not have strange ideas dismissed because of how odd they sounded. That was a good sign. If she kept it up maybe she could change the minds of a few more pure bloods that maybe their ancient old ideals were just that old ideas. She was quite glad that Melanie seemed to get the hang of it fairly quickly. She was smart, she just seemed to have a lot bottled up inside. Who didn't when dealing with such families. Even her sylbings and her cousin had issues, mainly with her and not the family itself. Her sylbings and cousin hated her. She knew why too. 

For the longest time those three always assumed they were better that her. The ones on top, the ones going to lead the family. When Raven was ten she finally was permitted to test with the rest of her family. She would never forget how angry her cousin and brother and sister were when she left them all behind with her much more advanced knowledge. Granted they didn't know how she came to be that talented, but they didn't care. Since then they have been trying to best her. The family tested the children every year when school let out to see who really was to become the head. Raven was always on top, somehow every year she would beat them at grades, physical test, accomplishments. This year would be no different. 

Raven was brought back to reality when Melanie thanked her. "No worries Melanie. I am sure you will do great on that exam. If you every need any help with anything feel free to ask. Us Slytherins need to stick together" Raven gave her most convincing warm smile. She wanted to be friends but only because she wanted to know what the girl was hiding. It was the Slytherin side of her. But maybe they could end up being good friends one day.

Slytherins, stick together? Melanie almost laughed at that one. Most of her housemates tended to be like her father. Rude, stuck up, arrogant. The people who gave the house it's horrible reputation outweighed those who really embodied the true meaning of being a slytherin. Ambition, cunning, drive. Sure they were mostly pure blood and rich, but she hated it sometimes whenever they couldn't realize the entire world didn't revolve around them. Raven seemed nice though, so maybe she was different.

"I will, as long as you do the same. I know I can't help you with homework and stuff, but if there's ever anything else...let me know. Allies were always a necessity in their world. One or two more couldn't hurt either of them.

Raven knew that there were many Slytherins that made sure the vial reputation of the Slytherin house was still deemed the norm. People like her who were true Slytherins, good people were thrown in with the rest. Over looked and considered just as vial as the rest. It wasn't true even if many acted as such. She wanted to change it. It had been two hundred years since the last dark lord. Why were pure bloods still living in the middle ages? It cause problems with making friends. There were no friends for Slytherins, just allies, minions, people to use and the all abundant enemies. But she did have friends, real friends. Granted none of them were in Slytherin but they were people she could count on without some alliterative motives. 

Raven nodded to Melanie as she stood. "I'll keep that in mind. Best of luck on the exam" Raven smiled and decided to go back to her rounds. She waved to the girl. "See you around"
