Claire is a strong willed girl with an attitude. She loves to argue and be right about things and sometimes it can be a little insane. But she is a generally good person who cares a lot about her students. Since the time she was at Hogwarts herself, she has always loved potions and wanted to teach it.
To her, things tend to be black and white. She is the kind of person who hates the "grey" parts of life, the parts of life that don't really have a label as 'good' or 'bad'. When she does something that is in the grey and kind of ambiguous, she feels guilty about it.
She is always striving to do the right the for her students. She is often staying up later than she should grading essays and creating tests. But to her, those things are what makes students fall in love with potions, which isn't as common as she would like it to be.
As far as a love life is concerned, because she spends basically all of her time teaching and at Hogwarts, she never really gave herself the opportunity to fall in love or date anyone. Its not that she isn't interested, but it seems she needs someone who challenges her and she hasn't found anyone like that yet.

There isn't much to say about Claire's early life. She doesn't remember anything about herself before she was nine. Her first memory is sitting at a large group table at a pub called the Leaky Cauldron. There were maybe five or six other kids there and they all seemed to know her, and she knew them, but didn't recall meeting them. They were orphans, all of them, and they were on a trip to meet a few adoptive families in London before heading back to their little hovel in Surrey.
Needless to say, Claire didn't get adopted. She stayed at the orphanage until she was eleven, when she got her acceptance letter to Hogwarts. From that moment on, Claire fell i love with Potions. The measuring and the magic done in the dungeons at Hogwarts was amazing to her. She loved all the colors and smells, even the nasty ones, because they prove that something could be set in stone. No matter what happens, the recipe for Sleeping Draught will never change, and to her that was amazing.
Throughout her Hogwarts years, Claire focused almost all of her energy on kicking Potions ass. It had never occurred to her to even think about anything else. She wanted to do potions forever and eventually teach it at Hogwarts. Right after she graduated, she got a position with the Ministry making magical make-up. It wasn't what she wanted but the woman who had own the orphanage she grew up in had pulled some strings for her and it wasn't like the position at Hogwarts was available. SO she took the job and worked there, miserable, for nearly six months. She received a letter from the Headmaster at Hogwarts one day explaining that the Potions Master has fallen ill and resigned the position in the middle of the year. The letter offered the job to Claire and she immediately walked out of the ministry.
Since then, Claire has worked hard for Hogwarts and become the Head of Gryffindor House.
