kick the dust up | taze and lyric

Dinner had been cleared for almost an hour when Asher finally made his way down to the Great Hall, two brooms and the cleaning equipment floating in front of him as he opened the doors. Letting them rest on a table, he summoned a chair from across the room and settled it near the entrance to wait for Fowler and Lee. The only instructions he had given them were to meet him here at the appointed time, which was technically in five minutes. All he had to do was wait until they got here, delegate the instructions, and then hopefully catch a nap while the students did all the work.

Lyric showed up to the Great Hall early, not sure what was going to happen. Talking to Natalia earlier in the day had calmed her nerves considerably, so she wasn't worried about being around Taze or whatever Kale was going to come up with for detention. She just wanted to get it over with so that she could go on with her life. The doors were already open and the professor had an interesting spread out on the first table, but she didn't question it. A nod in the direction of an open bench let her know that Kale wasn't going to tell her anything just yet, so she sat down to wait for Taze or instructions, whichever came first.

Shit, shit, shit. Taze was running down the stairs the emptied him into the Entrance hall just as his watch beeped and told him he was late for detention. Maybe that crazy Kale guy wouldn't be there quite yet. He burst into the room more loudly than he intended and his face went pale when he saw the Professor sitting there, "Sorry, the stairs moved..." He said lamely, like that even really counted as an excuse.

Asher was getting a little bored waiting for the Fowler kid when he finally heard footsteps down the hall. Granted, the boy was only a few minutes late, but it was still annoying. The girl looked ready to jump out of her skin and had fiddled with her bracelets enough to make him nervous just by watching. "Not to worry Mr. Fowler. This punishment is all about time. Your time."

Standing up, he walked over to the busted and broken brooms and handed one to each of the students as well as a bucket and a pile of rags. "I have been petitioned on your behalf to give you an opportunity to earn your way out of detention early. The task is simple. Clean all of the floating candles in the Great Hall by hand. When you have finished, the punishment is over. You WILL be here for a minimum of two hours every night until the task is completed, but you may stay as long as you wish. You could even finish tonight if you both worked diligently." With his instructions complete, he made his way back to the chair and reclined in it, his feet propped up on a nearby bench.

"Oh, and no magic of course. The brooms are your only tools in this exercise. Consider it endurance practice."

It seemed like the professor was asleep before Lyric could even process what was going on. She shot Taze a questioning look before getting on the broom and heading towards the other end of the hall to do what Kale asked. At least down there they could talk if they wanted to. They would be too far away for him to eavesdrop anyways. "What's up with this? I mean, there are a lot in here, but we could totally be finished tonight." Not that she was annoyed, but still. This was super shady and she wasn't sure she liked that.

Taze glared at the candles and nodded, "I guess." He shrugged and wondered vaguely ho had 'petitioned on their behalf'. Whoever that was, they were way braver than he was to ask a favor of the crazy man, "Should we get started?" He asked, grinning at Lyric as he mounted the rickety piece of garbage the professor had called a broom. A part of him wondered if the thing would float, let alone fly.

Lyric nodded with a small smile and kicked off, gripping the handle tightly when the broom suddenly kicked off to the right instead of hovering straight up like she had intended. Great, the broom was busted. This was going to be interesting. "Think he'll let us go get our brooms, or is this part of the deal?" Nudging it forward towards the first set of candles she could reach, Lyric grabbed on to the bucket and prayed that it stayed in it's spot on the handle. This may be harder than she thought.

Taze scoffed at the girl's suggestion, "You think he is the kinda guy to bring us somethin' and not completely intend on us usin' it?" He asked her, knowing full well she knew the answer to that question. He felt the broom tilting to one side as he tried to hover next to a one of the candles, unsure of how exactly they were suppose to 'clean' them. It's not like they could really dust them without fear of setting a fire in the Great Hall, which Taze was sure would get worse detention than this, in not expulsion.

Groaning, he took a rag from it's place on his belt and carefully wiped the candle. He was sure this was making him look like an idiot, "This is the worst punishment ever." He hoped that Kale couldn't hear them from his spot by the door.

Lyric nodded grimly at Taze's comment and turned away to start scrubbing at the candles nearest to her. She worked in complete silence for about twenty minutes and prayed they could get it all done in one night. By the fiftieth, or was it sixtieth, set of candles she had finally managed to get a decent system worked out. All of her attention was on the candles and the excuse they provided for ignoring both of the males in the room.

Her latest set had lead her closer to Taze than she realized, but at least Asher was asleep by now. "I think next time we should just be late to class Taze." Lyric scowled playfully as she threw her rag back in to the bucket and turned to face him. It was time for a break, right?

Grinning, Taze finished maybe his fourth set of candles. Cleaning was not his thing, like at all. He knew that Lryic had done about five times the number of candle that he had done but it's not like that really matter to anyone.

"Nah," He said in response to her comment, "I think that it was worth it for some alone time." He said honestly.

Lyric's eyes widened a little bit at his response, not sure what to say. It wasn't like they had talked about anything and she wasn't sure she wanted to. Her father's long line of girlfriends had taught her that relationships were bad news, and even her own mother hadn't stuck around for more than one night, so why would she put herself willingly through that? Logically she knew this was different. Taze wasn't some half crazed groupie looking for a one night stand, and at the end of the day it was just a kiss. Or two.

"If you want alone time, just ask Taze. Kale may kill us next time." She teased, moving towards another candle to work on it. Lyric needed some sort of distraction if they were having one of these talks now and the faster they cleaned, the faster they could go back to practicing instead of being unpaid janitors.

Taze rolled his eyes and chose to fly in the other direction, keeping his balance in the rickety broom like he had been flying on it for years. He finished off one corner of the Great Hall and yawned. His watch read three in the morning and he wondered if they could call it good for the night, knowing that mean they would have to come back the next evening.

Groaning, he leaned forward and the bucket of water that had been hanging on the edge of broom slipped off, falling to the floor loudly and splattering water all over the huge door and, unfortunately, the professor sitting next to it.

Asher had been in a deep sleep for a few hours at least by the time his rude awakening came. The loud crash had startled him slightly, enough to jostle him awake mere seconds before the water hit. Dirty, grimy filth covered him from head to toe as he stood. "What the-. Fowler!" He growled, looking towards the younger man.

Where Lee was, Asher didn't know or care. All he knew was that this was ridiculous. "Get out of here, both of you. Meet back tomorrow at the same time to finish up." He hoped they would leave long before he changed his mind. The last thing he wanted to do was spend MORE quality time with Taze.
