PERSONALITY | Strong, determined, Loyal. All of these traits can be used to describe Braxton Thomas Wyatt. But these are a few things about him that even he can't stand. The first, is that he is of mixed lineage. According to his mother, that was a sign of weakness and he should hide it at all cost. So, to him, he was born a weakling and he has to work ten times as hard to prove that he is just as strong as all those people who were born privileged. The way that his family decided to handle his inferior birth was by lying. Braxton constantly lies about his lineage and who his parents actually are. He can't personally decide if that makes him a bad person or a coward. It's not that he doesn't like himself, because that's definitely not the case, he thinks he is a bad ass, but he does with that he were pureblooded for the sake of the power that gives him. Braxton is the kind of person who is sarcastic and impulsive. He always makes comments when they shouldn't be said and is more likely to speak his mind than most people, and generally it is because someone pissed him off and he is yelling at them, or telling them what they did wrong. He likes to be in charge and strives to be the perfect pureblood even though he isn't truly a pureblood wizard at all. Braxton can resent his family ties to the Wyatt's sometimes. He hates having to lie because he thinks it makes him a coward or something so he is often upset with his family. The only people he can stand at the moment would be his little sisters, and Octavia doesn't even make THAT easy. |

SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW
HISTORY | Braxton’s story starts long before he was born. It goes back generations and spans over hundreds of years of planning and arranged marriages. On both his mother’s side of the family and his father’s, they planned the best matches to continue pure and uninterrupted magical bloodlines. Often you will hear Octavia joke about how they are probably related to their cousins in more than one way. It is because of the grotesque lengths the families had to go to in order to keep the bloodline pure, especially after the war was lost to Voldemort hundreds of years ago. Seventeen years ago, when Chanelle Hammond was still in her fifth year at Hogwarts, she was promised to a boy named Oliver Wyatt. He was the same age as her and strikingly handsome. In her mind she lucked out, finding such a wonderful pureblood boy to someday call her husband. Emphasis on someday. Although the idea of a pure and perfect bloodline was very important to her, Chanelle didn’t see the harm in simply having fun while she was still in school. She became attracted to a mudblood boy named Jackson Lancaster. He was everything her family had warned her against. He loved thrill-seeking, engaged her in thought and body. He was Gryffindor. All of those things were immediately disqualifying him as a candidate for her, especially since she was betrothed to another man. Despite all of this, Chanelle found herself in bed with him and, in their seventh year at Hogwarts and after two years of a passionate affair behind Oliver’s back, Chanelle found herself pregnant. She had hardly spoken to Oliver, let alone slept with him, so the two of them knew instantly that the baby belonged to Jackson Lancaster. In order to save her family name, the Hammonds were forced to pay a large sum of money to the Wyatts and Chanelle married Oliver before they even graduated from Hogwarts. Naturally, the public assumed they were married so quickly because Oliver was the father of the baby. Five months after the wedding, Braxton Thomas was born. After they were married, it was in Oliver and the Wyatts’ best interest to accept the boy as their own. It would be demeaning to be related to a mixed blood bastard boy and, for the sake of their own name and political power, they elected to keep it a secret even from the boy. Oliver, although accepting his family’s decision, never felt that the boy belonged to him. From the moment he came home, Oliver was awful to Braxton. He ignored the baby when he cried, refused to hold him, and completely ignored him in almost all aspects of life. He even refused to talk about him for the longest time. One year later, Chanelle had a second baby. A girl named Angharad. Ang was the first true pureblood child of the Wyatt union and she was treated that way. The family spoiled her and loved her, leaving Braxton out more often than not. It was not uncommon for them to forget his birthday and then turn around and buy Angharad a pony simply because they thought that is what she wanted. Somehow, though, Braxton didn’t let this affect him as much as it could have. He became quite the loner and learned that he couldn’t really trust anyone, even his own parents. Not too long after, another girl was added to the family. Octavia Rae joined as the third Wyatt child and second pureblood child. At this point, Braxton still completely believed that Oliver was his father. After all, Oliver and Jackson looked similar enough to one another that it wasn’t hard to believe Braxton belonged to Oliver. An entire life of being left out, ignored, and hated by his own father made Braxton bitter and slightly unfeeling. He cared about people he trusted and that list was disturbingly small all things considered. When Braxton received his Hogwarts letter at the tender age of eleven, there was no big dinner or family trip to Hogsmeade. Braxton was sent, with a nanny, to shop on his own. In fact, the nanny slept through seeing him off the on train. Braxton was forced to load his own trunk and sailed off to Hogwarts without even a goodbye from his family. When Braxton arrived at Hogwarts, he was surprised to learn that people didn’t automatically treat each other with malice. He appreciated that and began to loosen up a little bit, cracking a joke every now and then, even if it was at the expense of someone else. And he did make friends, even though he never actually trusted them completely. When Braxton was in his third year at Hogwarts, a man named Jackson Lancaster came to the school to teach. The way he often looked at Braxton, and made sure Braxton had everything he needed, disturbed the boy and one day he wrote to his mother about it, complaining of Professor Lancaster and his strange behavior. Braxton received no response, which didn’t surprise him, and he eventually let it go. When he hopped on the train to return to the Wyatt household for Christmas that year, with his two little sisters, he was surprised to find his mother waiting for him at King’s Cross. Instead of hugging her two girls and ignoring the boy as she had done in the past, she approached Braxton and wrapped her arms around him. The feeling of hugging his mother was foreign to him and, quite honestly, made him feel sick to his stomach. From the look on Octavia’s face, it was safe to say she felt the same way about the whole situation. Octavia and Angharad were taken away with a nanny and, for the first time ever, Chanelle and Oliver took Braxton out to eat. To the now thirteen year old Braxton Wyatt, nothing could have been better. His parents were talking to him, asking him how school was and if he liked Hogwarts. It was like a switch flipped and they suddenly decided that they wanted to accept him. But that wasn’t the case at all. The conversation somehow made its way to Professor Jackson Lancaster. And then from there, every little bit of disturbing and heart-breaking truth spilled out across the table like milk or water. It drenched Braxton and made him feel cold and hollow on the inside. Everything was explained in that twenty minute conversation. Just a few exchanged words and Braxton suddenly understood why he had been ignored, why his grandparents seemed to hate him, why his father, or step-father, resented him so deeply. Everything. And he suddenly hated himself just as much as his whole family did. Returning to Hogwarts after Christmas break was hard, especially since he now knew that Professor Lancaster was his father. How was he supposed to act around the man? Did he say something to him or just ignore it? He was told over and over during the break not to mention his lineage to anyone. Apparently, he was never meant to find out but now that Jackson had made an appearance, Chanelle had felt there was no choice about it. Knowing what his family believed, he couldn’t admit that he was anything less than a Pureblood Wyatt boy. He had hardly made his decision to ignore Professor Lancaster, when it was announced that the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor had left the school without notice or warning. The rest of the year, the DADA classes were cancelled and Braxton was able to return to life, pretending that none of the Lancaster news had been learned. But summer couldn’t stay away forever, and eventually he found himself herded onto a train with the rest of the students and sent back to the people the world believed to be his family. He hadn’t been home for five minutes before his step-father announced that Braxton would be spending the summer with his mother’s sister. The woman lived in California and didn’t care that Braxton was not pure. She introduced him to all kinds of drugs and taught him that worrying about things you can’t control doesn’t help anything. Although the purpose of the trip was to keep Braxton away for the summer, it actually ended up helping him cope with everything he had been going through with his “family”. He returned for the last few weeks of summer and it didn’t bother him that he was the loner who never left his room. He no longer cared about the other people living in that house. In his fourth year at Hogwarts, Braxton was invited to join the Quidditch team as a Beater. He had learned to fly well with his aunt and found that the aggressive nature of the Beater position helped him blow off some steam when he got upset about his family. He turned to Quidditch as a type of therapy and quickly became very good at the game, practicing the sport more than he did anything else. His grades are beginning to slip and, even now, he doesn’t care. He only cares about Quidditch and getting through with school as quickly as possible so he can leave his terrible ‘parents’ and never look back. |
ALL THE SMALL THINGS
WAND | length: 10 1/2 inches core: dragon scale wood: oak, sturdy |
PETS? | Braxton does have an owl named Harriet. It was a gift from his maternal aunt when he was visiting her in California. The owl is pretty run of the mill, but is a fast mail carrier and that makes it good for sending letters to people. |
OTHER ITEMS? | Braxton has his own broom, a newer model but not the best because he had to buy it himself and he couldn't afford the newest broom. |
