Rafael had always thought that people took the whole “different personalities never match” concept too far. There was always the supposed ‘unseen rule’ to making friends: slightly similar beliefs, same socioeconomic standing, hang around the same clique, and the good ol’ “having the same drive” idea. In his opinion, all it took to make friends was simple – a fantastic “accident”. The proper time, exact mood, and the precise amount of luck. Without the three factors, even the greatest pair would never form a companionship. People like Raven and Rafael becoming friends was completely possible. Being a friend of a prefect – however – could’ve possibly been the best blessing or the worst curse in disguise.
“You mean possibly letting me off the hook if you were ever to catch me red-handed?” Without thinking, he broke into his childish smile once more. “That is, if you ever catch me. Not to gloat, but I do have a very kickass system that I’m proud of.” Rafael secretly prayed that Raven would’ve said “yes”. How could would it have been to actually have insider connections to that damned crime-busting squad? Jokes aside, Rafael thought about the moral compass of Raven. Did she actually break a single rule over her stay at Hogwarts, or did she recite them all before she went to bed? Rafael scrunched his eyebrows and squinted – possible topics for later days, he supposed.
Rafael figured he should’ve anticipated that statement about going about their friendship. It would be nice to avoid all the questions involving their surprising relationship. But then again, ignoring each other as they pass the hallways seemed like a terrible idea. “Life is a very mysterious adventure – I’ll give you that one.” He pursed his lips as he thought hard about their peculiar situation. To talk, or not to talk? “I say we forget about the reputation. Hogwarts is only a fraction of our lives anyways and besides, being weird is slightly awesome.” He leaned back onto his chair, letting his opinion sink in. Rafael didn’t mind too much about the whole thought of being friends. The more, the merrier.

Without the mask where will you hide
I know the truth Can’t find yourself lost in your lie. Raven laughed at his goofy smile. Let him off the hook, no that wasn't going to happen. "Not a chance, if I catch you breaking the rules for your own thrills I would so turn you in. But depending on the situation I might be willing to turn a blind eye, especially if it is for a noble cause" Raven might act like her family really wanted her to but she had a strong sense of moral duty. Sure she didn't show it often but as long as she was doing the right thing she didn't mind. Now that didn't mean that she couldn't break rules. If it was for the right reasons the lines between right and wrong blurred then rules were more of a suggestion.
Life was defiantly a mystery. Never knowing what was going to happen. She liked structure, knowing was to expect but there were moments like this one where she was unprepared. She did like the idea of ignoring the basic social hierarchy. Granted the other Slytherins would probably believe she was just using him and since he was from a pure blood family there really wasn't much they could say. To be honest the idea sounded like fun.
"You know I think it could be quite entertaining" She gave a more sinister chucked as her smile turned into a sly grin. The more she thought about it the more fun in sounded. Not only did she have a friend but she could stir up some things at the school without tarnishing her reputation. The next two years were going to be fun.

“I guess we’ll meet halfway then,” he said playfully. It was a surprise that Raven had decided to give him some leeway for his mischief. Rafael had always assumed that his name would spread around the prefects like a wildfire – given his numerous “acts of crime”. Maybe his record wasn’t as notorious as he thought, which was perhaps for the better.
Raven’s proposition, however, intrigued him. What did she count as “noble”? Would a party created to “heal the broken hearts of rejected students” work? Or was that simply too vague? Either way, Rafael wasn’t the greatest of liars – she’d probably see right through his handiwork easily.
“Entertaining?” Rafael raised his left eyebrow at her statement with a look of curiosity. “What exactly do you mean by that?” He was taken aback by the devilish smile. Did she actually have something in store, or was she secretly evil? In most cases, talking to a person allowed the individual to vaguely assess them as the conversation went on. Speaking to her, however, seemed to have the opposite effect. The thought about it made Rafael more confused – somehow learning more about Raven got him further and further away from actually understanding her persona.
Rafael turned his head to the doorway, noticing the apparent absence of more students trekking through the halls. “Had time gone by that fast?” he muttered to himself, trying to deduce the hour of day by the number of people walking by. It had always been a secret talent of his – educated guesses made through observation. The idea was basic, if not many people were walking around the halls it either had to be because of classes or bedtime. The direction his peers walked allowed him to map out where they had to vaguely be going – perhaps they were going to the courtyard to chat or maybe the common rooms to rest. Rafael first started using the tactic back in his second year when his desire for delinquency got the better of him. Needless to say, a couple of years of practice had made him a veteran – granting him a valuable tool in his metaphorical woodshed.

Without the mask where will you hide
I know the truth Can’t find yourself lost in your lie. Raven didn't know how to answer his question. Well, more so she wasn't sure if she wanted to. She wasn't sorted into Slytherin because of her family. The sorting hat placed her there because of who she was. Sure she didn't believe in many things her family believed in, but she was still born to be in Slytherin. Maybe it was the ability to speak to snakes, but she figured it was something more. "Let's just see what happens" Raven stated coyly. She wasn't going to give everything away during the first interaction.
Time really had past by quickly. Raven decided to change the subject Something more interesting. "Looking forward to the Summer Break?" She was wondering if he was going to be partaking in the whole pure blood exchange. She figured if he was going then maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Thinking back on the question she wasn't sure if it was exactly a good idea but she was itching to know.

“Alright.” Rafael said, nodding towards her statement. The thought intrigued him, causing a ruckus alongside the Slytherin prefect – what a sight it would be to the other students! Next year would certainly be a lot more interesting, that was for sure. He wanted to inquire further about that prospect, but decided it was best to keep his excitement to himself. Planned commotions were never fun, anyways.
“I wish.” Rafael groaned as he thought about it. “Believe me, the only time summer break will seem like a blessing is when I’m old enough to leave home – otherwise, it’s just stuffy suits and proper manners.” He paused, clearing his throat. “Would you like a cup of tea, mum?” He stated in his most proper English accent. “It is a godsend that they allow me to even step outside the house during summer instead of just letting me rot in my room.” In was one of those situations that got better over time Rafael supposed. They gave him more responsibility as he got older – he just had to make sure he didn’t throw it all away.
“What about you?”

Without the mask where will you hide
I know the truth Can’t find yourself lost in your lie. His proper impersonation was quite funny. She could understand the feeling of not going out during the summer. For Raven though the feeling was different. The more she could stay in her room was less time to spend with her family. She loved the solitude. It also meant she didn't have to compete with her sylbings and cousin constantly. She could read, study and just get better, it was nice. "I enjoy the solitude of being locked in my room all summer. It means I don't have to fight with my sylbings or my cousin. Everything is a competition to see who is better, and being the next head I have to make sure I beat them at everything. It is exhausting. Also we can not leave without an escort or another family member. Something about ancient family, reputation blah blah blah" Raven rolled her eyes. She usually didn't openly disrespect the family traditions but she was at ease with the Gryffindor.
This summer. This summer was going to be different. "Most likely I will be joining some of the families in the exchange. You know the pure blood bonding camp. It is going to be soo much fun” Raven was being overly sarcastic. She started to laugh at the thought of how the summer will be. "Hey maybe if I'm not surround by my own family I can get out for once. A little freedom would be nice" Raven shrugged her shoulders. It was a nice thought but she wasn't sure if she would go along with it.

If his summer was spent like Raven’s, Rafael wouldn’t even know what to think anymore. It was difficult to be “still” for him – he would surely explode from the uneasiness of being isolated. He loved being around everyone because it just eased his mind. And that was the unsaid truth about Rafael – he enjoyed being social. “I probably couldn’t do what you do. Staying alone and all, drives me nuts.”
He smirked at her obvious disgust towards “ancient family reputation”. He wondered if there was anyone that sincerely wanted to uphold family image over pursuing their own desires. It would be hard to imagine, becoming a martyr for the sake of the bloodline. All that stress poured into an activity that one probably wouldn’t even enjoy. He wished the best for anyone that had sacrificed themselves in that manner. The real troopers of the modern world, he had to give them at least that much.
“So much fun!” Playing along with her sarcasm, Rafael chuckled. The idea of the “camp” sent shivers down his spine. How suffocating would it be to exist in a room full of snarky rich people? Glasses of champagne and fancy table cloths – fake smiles and insults sharper than knives. Or at least, those were all the meetings that Rafael had previously attended. The most horrific part was that he had to play along. Rumors travelled fast in the circle of the higher-class and angry parents was the last thing he wanted in the world.
His head perked up at her last comment. “Trust me, you are treating yourself by getting out! It’s a lot better than standing around and doing nothing.” He gazed up thoughtfully, recollecting all the adventures he had during summer when he was able to be on his own. “Diagon Alley is fun for a few days. But it’s definitely swimming and hiking that does it for me.” Rambling about his past experiences brought about nostalgia once again.

Without the mask where will you hide
I know the truth Can’t find yourself lost in your lie. Raven listened closely to what Rafael was saying. She enjoyed listening to him speak. It was mainly because he was being honest. It words were full of truth and it wasn't something she was surrounded by often. Most of the time she was dealing with people who hid everything and followed a strict rule. Never give anything up. Most of the time it was either sharp words dipped in poison or empty promises to lure people to follow. It was overly tiresome and this conversation was quite refreshing.
Raven looked around and realized it was getting late. She had things to do and as much as she hated to leave she needed to. She offered her hand to Onyx who slithered up her arm to rest on her shoulders behind her hair as always. "As much as I hate to end this here, it is getting late and I should be on my way. Maybe we will run into each other this summer? One thing I do know for sure is that things are going to be a little different from here on out" Raven winked as she stood.

“For sure!” Rafael stood up from his chair, stretching his arms. Although the talk was nice, he had so much to do. The year was almost over and idly waiting while the whole world was moving on felt a bit counterproductive. In fact, through the whole talk he had forgotten the amount of studying he had to do for the finals. Crap.
“Well, hopefully we can catch up sooner than later.” He made his way towards the exit, nodding towards Raven. “Believe it or not, I am going to have a very serious meeting with a few books.” His hand glided over the cold stone of the entrance – the smoothness of the wall always brought him back to his first year. He had spent a lot of time in the lounge back then. Those were the days.
“Farewell, princess.” Rafael couldn’t help but smile at his parting words. He just had to say “princess” one more time before Raven could start nagging about saying it. Turning the corner, the boy raised his right hand to signal his goodbye to her. The corridors were almost empty now. He quickened his pace – tonight was going to be a very long night.
