"Really!" Lyric groaned, falling back on to the pillows. The hospital wing was not her favorite place in the world, especially not so close to the championship game. If she had been playing, or even practicing, whenever she fell and apparently broke her leg, Lyric would have completely understood what was going on. But no, she had to go and do it whike trying to find a quiet place to study. Her mini practice session with Raven had ended maybe an hour before, so she decided a last minute study break would be a smart move. Where better to do that than in the stands? A loose board caught her jeans and sent her tumbling down the stairs, luckily right by where she left her broom. 

Fifteen minutes and and a well meaning ravenclaw second year meant she was at least staying over night. Something about needing to regrow one of her bones. This sucked, royally. Lyric's teammates were bound to be furious, but she was dreading seeing her friends even more. There was no way Lilly or Raven were ever going to let her live this down, not as long as she lived.

Ace was usually careful with the creatures he worked with. It was the first day of his exam and things were going great. The students did well and he was very happy of the outlook. However when it came time to clean up one of the younger students accidentally tripped over a fire crab and Ace stepped in the way before the young student was burned by the surprised crab. However he did end up with a nasty burn on his arm. After he calmed down the student and the crab Ace wrapped everything up and headed to the hospital wing for some burn ointment, he had run out. 

He had a fun time explaining why he didn't use his wand in such a situation. It didn't help that he left the wand in his office. Ace did that often. It was mainly because he was capable of dealing with the creatures without using magic and preferred to do things that way. It was his muggle side but that did mean he was often covered in burns and cuts especially when working with a new creature.

There weren't too many students there today. He looked over to see Ms. Lee laying in bed. He knew the quidditch championship was in the next few days so why was she here? "What happened Ms. Lee, if you don't mind me asking?" Ace was charming and sincere. He might be the Slytherin head of house but that didn't mean that he was biased.

The last person Lyric had expected to see in the hospital wing was Professor Hadwin. He was pretty tough, even for a professor, second only to maybe Kale in her book. Despite being the head of Slytherin and teaching a subject she didn't always find interesting, Lyric still had a lot of respect for the older man. "I was practicing down at the pitch and decided to take a study break. A nail caught my jeans and I fell down the steps, then some younger Ravenclaw kid tried to mend my leg." She explained, gesturing towards the limp limb as a shudder of pain went up her spine. Of course you couldn't regrow bones painlessly.

"For some reason, and I don't know what, he thought it would be a good idea to turn my leg in to mush. So I'm stuck here for the rest of the night." Her tone was tight, but not out of annoyance. Hopefully Ace knew that though. That still didn't answer the question of why he was here. "What about you Professor Ace? The newts get you again?:

Nodding his understanding, Ace decided to sit at the foot of the bed across from Lyric. It was an unfortunate situation. "The young ones do try even if they shouldn't" Ace chuckled. "Truly sorry that it ended in such a way, especially right before the game" Ace was sincere. He didn't want his house winning because the opposing team was missing one of their better players. All the team members were good otherwise they wouldn't be in the finals but there were a handful that were just great. To the point they could go pro. Ace knew that feeling. He was great at Quidditch, but his love for animals drove him to a different profession. He wouldn't have it any other way.

Ace had to laugh at the mention of the newts. He was never going to live down that, or some of the other situations he found himself in. Ace was strong and it too a good amount to end up in the hospital wing. That and he kept a good supply of healing ointments. He had no fear when it came to magical creatures so he could be a little careless. Especially since he tended to forget his wand. "Left my wand in the office again" He shook his head. That was the only down fall to having an office away form the classroom. "One of the second years tripped over a fire crab, so it was either get burned or have the student get injured. Those crabs can be so testy" Ace was grinning even though the incident was not funny. If anything it was a lesson to always have his wand. 

The only thing was, Ace was not going to learn. Next year won't be any different. He was just going to get into the thick of it and hope he came out in one piece. It was what he did in Romania with the dragons. It was not suggested but Ace had a knack with bonding with dangerous creatures.

Lyric shuddered slightly at the mention of getting burned by the crabs. Even if she didn't mind a little pain now and then, some of those creatures Ace messed with were beyond ridiculous. "You know, one of these days we're just going to get you a fireman's uniform and then never let you out of it." She teased, leaning back against the pillows and letting out a loud laugh at the mental image. Maybe that's what he needed for Christmas next year.

The Quidditch match was something she had worried about right of the bat, but according to the head matron she would be just fine by game time. "And no worries. I'll be good by the next exam, so Quidditch is definitely on. I wouldn't miss it if they had to strap me to the broom."

Now that was an interesting thought. It image of him teaching in a fireman's outfit was something that he could never forget. Not that it wasn't funny. In fact it was the funnest thing he had heard all day. Most times in his classes his students freely talked about what had happened during the day. He always knew the recent gossip or what the other professors were saying. He made sure his students would always feel open in his class. He was very chill, however he could easily scare people if he wanted to. Never let a former Slytherin loose their temper. 

"Yes I can see it now. Teaching how to approach a Unicorn while head to toe in yellow fire gear. No make it red I'll be the chief. Yep that will work" Ace laughed at the idea. He could see his students faces in his mind. There would be no way he could teach that way. He just needed to find a fireproof charm and charm his clothes. It would help a little. That or he could be careful. 

He didn't blame her for the statement. When he was in school he would have said the same thing. He loved quidditch too much to miss a game. "I fully understand. Quidditch was one of the highlights of my school days. Just make sure to give my Slytherins a run for their money. The need to work hard to earn a win" Ace was all for giving his students a challenge.

 With Raven on their team, not to mention that beater of theirs, it was going to be tough to NOT give the tem an easy win. Taze was brilliant though, so he could cancel out Wyatt pretty well. The chasers though...they were going to have to work harder than usually to score. That was something she didn't look forward to at all. "We'll do our best. Too bad I couldn't convince Gaunt to cut me some slack" There wasn't a way in hell that she would, but it was funny to think about. Raven was going to kill her when she found out about this anyways.

Ace gave one of his signature Slytherin grins. There was no way Gaunt was going to hold back. It wasn't in the nature of a true Slytherin. they were way to ambitious. Also from what he had seen of the Slytherin she wasn't the type to betray her team. "That is all that matters. Trying your best and whatever you do. Besides Gaunt will most likely work twice as hard to beat you" Ace was very specific when he said the last part. He nodded towards Lyric. We'll do our best. Too bad I couldn't convince Gaunt to cut me some slack. 

Ace checked his arm to see how the burn was doing. The fire crab wasn't as bad as the Dragons. He would be out for a day if hit by their flame. Which he was a couple times. Some dragons it was just their way of bonding with another. It made him part of the group, it just took a couple days with magic to heal.

Before Lyric could respond, the head matron and her assistant bustled over with another horrible potion for her to drink. Hasn't these people heard of Tylenol or Morphine yet? Surely that would knock her out and dull the ache much faster and without tasting like absolute garbage. "Professor, I think they are trying to kill me. " She grimaced, holding the goblet and trying to convince herself to take what looked like a sleeping draught. "Think it would mess with the potion if I tried to make it cherry flavored or like, just threw it in a gallon of Dr. Pepper? " People spiked drinks with potions all the time. Maybe it would be worth it to try.

Ace shook his head. Cherry flavor potion. That would be the day. Granted it was amusing to think of but he knew the best remedies were the ones that tasted the worst. It was just how things were. "No I think it would change the potion. Maybe you can come up with another potion that will make you think that the flavor of the next potion you drink is Dr. Pepper" Ace laughed slightly. It wasn't a bad idea. Something to consider.

"Get some rest. You will feel much better in the morning" Ace stood and nodded to the Grffindor to take her potion. He made sure to grab some more burn cream from the nurse before leaving the Hospital wing.
