Finals and the quidditch championships had all come and gone, something that Melanie was grateful for. The majority of her stress had faded away with the last test, up until her father's reply came. He had been ecstatic, of course, to hear about her study session with Raven, even going so far as to congratulate her on a job well done. She should have been happy, but she wasn't.
Ashton had only written back to inform her that she wasn't even going home this summer, not for more than a few days at most. The Wyatt family was holding some sort of pure blood summer camp instead of the traditional exchange and they had been invited. That would've been interesting, if her father had chosen to attend. Instead, he'd be sending aunt Cass and Melanie alone due to his busy schedule and Damien's prior engagements.
Still, she had a few good things to look forward to. Raven was going and they had hit it off pretty well, so she would have a friend. The entire thing was at Braxton's house, so there there was another plus. At least they were on speaking terms, maybe a little more than that, which was why she was making her way down to the quidditch pitch in the first place, borrowed broom in hand.
The pitch was daunting from the ground, much more so than it was from the stands. Melanie stood at the entrance for a long minute just taking in the sight, completely oblivious to just about everything around her.
